Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the TapNomad mobile application and the tapnomad.app website (together, the “Service”), operated by Rabotto, a sole trader registered in Finland (business ID 3646938-8) (“we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these terms.
1. What TapNomad is — and what it is not
TapNomad provides informational guidance about tap-water quality and public water-refill points, compiled from official sources such as national regulators, water utilities and OpenStreetMap.
TapNomad is not a guarantee of water safety. Water quality can change at any time due to local incidents, maintenance, weather or infrastructure conditions that no data source reflects immediately. The information in the Service:
- is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind;
- may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate despite our efforts;
- is not medical, health or safety advice; and
- never replaces local official guidance. If local authorities, signage or your host say the water is unsafe — or you are in doubt — do not drink it.
Every water-quality answer in the app shows its official source and a confidence level, and the verification date where the source provides one, so you can judge it yourself.
In-app walking directions are guidance, not a promise that a route is safe or passable. They follow OpenStreetMap data, which can be wrong or out of date, and in the countryside a route can follow the shoulder of a road where no footpath exists. Watch the traffic, follow local rules and signs, and use your own judgement.
2. Acceptable use
You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not:
- scrape, bulk-download or redistribute the Service’s data outside the app;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer or gain unauthorized access to the Service;
- use the Service where doing so would violate applicable law.
Attribution notes: the map, the refill points and the shops come from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0; country baselines derive from World Bank open data (CC BY 4.0); the list of cities and their coordinates comes from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0); water-quality records cite their original official sources in the app.
The restriction above covers our own compiled water-quality data. It does not restrict the OpenStreetMap-derived data: that stays under the ODbL, and you may extract and redistribute it on the ODbL’s terms.
3. Premium subscription
- Plans and pricing are shown in the app before purchase (currently an annual and a weekly plan). Prices may vary by country and are charged in your local currency through your Apple ID.
- Free trial: where offered, the trial length and terms are shown at purchase. You can cancel during the trial without charge.
- Auto-renewal: subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel any time in your device’s subscription settings (App Store → Subscriptions).
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms.
- What Premium adds: offline packs (including the offline copy of the shops layer) and in-app navigation. The nearby-shops map layer itself is free: it shows shops that likely sell bottled water, with opening hours where OpenStreetMap has them tagged. Where those hours use the common weekday notation, the app also says whether the shop is open right now, computed on your device in the shop’s own time zone; public holidays are not known to it, and unusual notations are shown as tagged rather than guessed. All water-quality data remains free — safety information is never behind the paywall.
- When your subscription ends, downloaded offline packs keep working for 7 more days, then deactivate. The files stay on your device, and resubscribing switches them back on without re-downloading.
4. Offline content
Offline packs are provided for personal use within the app. A city wider than one pack, such as Tokyo, downloads as a bundle of overlapping parts that the app sizes, shows and deletes as one. The map tiles and the refill-point and shop files inside a pack derive from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL); each of those files carries the licence notice inside it. Offline content mirrors the online data at download time; refresh your packs to receive updates.
Pack files are not public downloads: each one is released to your app for a few minutes at a time after we check your subscription, and downloads are subject to fair-use limits per installation. Those limits are set far above any real trip. Bulk downloading, scraping or redistributing the packs or the water-quality database is not permitted, and we may suspend downloads for an installation or subscription that does it.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, including damages resulting from reliance on water-quality information. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including liability under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act for consumers, or liability for gross negligence or intent).
If you are a consumer in the EU, you retain all rights granted by mandatory consumer protection law of your country of residence.
6. Changes to the Service and these terms
We may modify or discontinue features, data sources or these terms. Material changes to these terms will be announced in the app or on the website with reasonable notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
7. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Consumers may also rely on the mandatory laws of their country of residence and may bring disputes to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi) or the EU online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/odr).
